Inaugurated in 2010, JULYDOSCOPE is a free, family-oriented event held annually at Discovery Green. This summer evening celebration of performing and cinematic arts is filled with a lively variety of live music, dance, spoken word, or other presentations by local artists, and, as the sun sets over downtown Houston, specially selected films are screened.

As families and friends enjoy picnics on the lawn, JULYDOSCOPE showcases Houston’s diverse arts organizations and artists. Ranging from energetic to exquisite, performances have featured Dance Source Houston, Urban Souls Dance Company, Compañia Folklorica Alegria Mexicana, Flamenco Room, Musiqa, Opera in the Heights, rappers Genesis Blu and the legendary (and HCAS board member) Bun B, in addition to a host of other Houston artists and performers.

Documentary screenings of a wide spectrum of entertaining films like the Academy Award© winning TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM and the break-dancing tour-de-force SHAKE THE DUST, or a compilation of short film winners of the CineSpace competition, have ended the evening under the stars and lights of Houston’s dramatic skyline.

This year, we are excited to partner with Discovery Green to present A GIANT LEAP: 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOON LANDING on July 20th, 2019 from 6pm to 10pm, where we will be showing a special screening of the Sundance-winning documentary, APOLLO 11!
