The eighth annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival celebrated all things Texan beginning with a dance hall-themed kick off celebrating “Honky Tonk Heaven: Legend of the Broken Spoke” at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on Thursday night.

Red carpet arrivals including Lynn Wyatt, Diane Lokey Farb, Neal Hamil, and more savored Brennan’s of Houston’s shrimp and grits, turtle soup and a “Galveston Off the Boat” crudo plate complete with the restaurant’s famous banana foster.
Board chair Franci Neely and the HCAF’s artistic director Richard Herskowitz introduced filmmakers Brenda Mitchell and Sam Douglas. After the “Honky Tonk Heaven” screening, Broken Spoke owners James and Annetta White participated in a lively Q&A session. Country artist Dale Watson closed out the opening night festivities.
