Houston Cinema Arts Festival spotlights top emerging female directors (Fox 26)
The eighth Houston Cinema Arts Festival runs from November 10-17 at venues across the City of Houston and threads all of Houston’s arts through film. The website for the festival with information on the films and how to purchase tickets is www.hcaf16.org.
CineSpace, a short film competition that is a partnership with NASA, returns for the second year with over 450 total entries narrowed down to 15 finalists that will screen at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Sunday, November 13 at 7:30 PM. The finalists will be judged by Richard Linklater.
The festival features several films with Oscar buzz, including JACKIE, LA LA LAND, LION, and PATERSON.
HCAF16 will pay tribute to legendary cinematographer Fred Elmes with a 30th anniversary screening of BLUE VELVET, the Houston premiere of PATERSON, and a Master Class Workshop by Fred Elmes at The Brandon Gallery.
HCAF16 features many emerging women directors, including Amber Tamblyn, Cheryl Nichols and Celia Rowlson-Hall. In addition to introducing their films, these directors will participate in a panel of emerging and established women directors organized by the American Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women on Sunday, November 13 at the Museum of Fine Arts at 1 PM.
